iPhone 5 Plans in Australia

The iPhone 5 is here and available on major carriers in Australia, or available outright as a purchase from Apple and you can use a SIM only plan with a new nano-sim.

The iPhone 5 features:

4G LTE for Australia which will run on Optus, Telstra and Virgin Mobile.
4 Inch screen (diagonal) and a slightly taller physical design, but the same width as iPhone 4S.
Similar camera specs but still best photos and video in market, with improvements in the way images are taken and processed and improvements in low light.

Plan Changes - iPhone 5 Plans and the New TCP Code for Australian Consumers

The launch of the iPhone 5 coincides with one of the most extensive updates that we've had to the way that carriers must market their plans. Going forward you're going to get alerts from carriers when you reach levels of usage at 50%, 85% and 100% of your inclued value. Importantly, the usage amounts quoted and the price of a standard text message that is published for Australian plans does NOT include any usage of iMessage which is where you send a text message to another iPhone and is essentially free and not charged at standard text message rates (you'll need iOS5 and above for this feature). There's also a range of spend management apps for iPhone from Optus, Telstra and Vodafone which allow you to monitor your usage, however these are not going to prevent overspending, just like a speedo in your car won't stop you at 100kmh so you need to keep your eyes on your usage.
